American hip-hop pioneers formed in Hollis, Queens in 1983 by Joseph Simmons, Darryl McDaniels, and Jason Mizell. Run-DMC achieved landmark firsts: first hip-hop group to earn gold and platinum records, first to appear on MTV and Rolling Stone's cover, and first to reach the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a rap act.
